Scholarships

The Department of Kinesiology facilitates several scholarships for students seeking degrees within our department. Please review the descriptions below for each scholarship's specific requirements. If you have any questions, please contact the Kinesiology Department: 410-704-4417.

The Stephen C. Broy Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is open to full time students in the Physical Education Teacher Education major who are Maryland residents and plan to combine teaching and coaching in their careers. 

"Stephen Broy, a 1993 graduate of the College of Health Professions, majored in Physical Education. In 2001 he earned his M.S. in Health Science. Steve had a distinguished career as a teacher-coach in Washington and Baltimore independent schools and made significant impact on the lives of his students and players both in and out of the classroom. He passed away suddenly on January 25, 2011. At the time he was a teacher and wrestling coach at Calvert School in Baltimore. Steve's widow, Laura Francese Broy, together with family, friends, and former students established a fund to honor his memory and provide his exemplary teacher-coach role model to other students following a similar career choice. The family of Stephen C. Broy wants to insure the recipient has the experience of giving back to the community."

Requirements

  • Enrolled in the Physical Education Teacher Education Program
  • Enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits per semester of the award
  • A resident of the state of Maryland
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.33 or higher
  • Recent evidence of a commitment to the teacher-coach model, either through community service or paid work.

The Mildred Murray Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is open to junior and senior students in the Physical Education Teacher Education major. Additional consideration will be given to students who have participated in an inter-scholastic athletic sport at the college or high school level. The award recipient(s) must submit a letter to Mrs. Mildred Murray or her designee identifying their career goals as a physical education teacher and a coach and how the scholarship will assist them in the attainment of their goals. 

Requirements

  • Enrolled in the Physical Education Teacher Education Program
  • Junior or Senior Standing at time of the award
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

The Jennifer L. Thomas Memorial Endowment Fund

This scholarship is open to full time junior and senior students in the Physical Education Teacher Education major who are Maryland residents and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

Requirements

  • Enrolled in the Physical Education/Teacher Education Program
  • Enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits per semester of the award
  • Junior or Senior standing at the time of the award
  • A resident of the state of Maryland
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

The Dr. J. Ellen Eason Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2012 by Dr. J. Ellen Eason, former Professor and Chairperson in the Department of Kinesiology.

This scholarship is open to junior students in the Physical Education Teacher Education major. Additional consideration will be given to students who have participated in an inter-scholastic athletic sport at the college or high school level, particularly a student who demonstrates interest in and support of women’s athletics. 

Requirements

  • Enrolled in the Physical Education Teacher Education Program
  • Junior standing for the semester the award is given in
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Total aid from all sources may not exceed the student's ¾«Ñ¡Âé¶¹¶þÇø Cost of Attendance Budget

Steven Kasin Operating Scholarship

The purpose of this Fund shall be to provide a ¾«Ñ¡Âé¶¹¶þÇø student who plan to earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

Requirements

  • Full-time undergraduate student entering their senior year; 
  • Enrolled in the College of Health Professions; 
  • 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA or better; 
  • First preference given to students with demonstrated financial need as defined by the Financial Aid Office;
  • Submit an essay expressing interest-career plans in Physical Therapy and intention to earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy at an accredited Physical Therapy program as well as detailing clinical experiences in the field of Physical Therapy.

BAM (Blackbaud Award Management)

BAM automates the current paper process for Foundation scholarships. To access BAM, please visitand login with your ¾«Ñ¡Âé¶¹¶þÇø NetID and password. First, BAM will automatically match you to scholarships for which you qualify based upon your information within the Towson University Student Information System. Next, you may be asked to supply a short application, a reference or essay to complete some applications. Scholarship committees will review all submitted applications and make their award decisions. 

You will be notified via email to your ¾«Ñ¡Âé¶¹¶þÇø email address if your application is selected and asked to complete post acceptance questions to finalize your award.  You will not receive any further notice if you are not selected. Should you have any questions, please email
